A BRIEF HISTORY OF SUNDERJI'S INSTITUTIONS

The highest achievers since history began have been dreamers. They have combined their aspiration and perspiration to make their own unique contribution and that’s what we at Sunderji’s have been doing since 1996.

We sincerely believe, that a thousand miles journey begins with a single step. This single step was taken by starting a Nursery School, which is now a stepping-stone for 4 more new institutions.
We at Sunderjis,
 started our journey of success on 29th July 1996. We started a kindergarten school on Shankersheth road with 13 tiny tots. Since then 10 years have passed…. 10 years of hard work, dedication and fulfillment. 10 years of rich and happy experiences.
      

Sunderjis' Nursery School is a kindergarten school with a difference. The school is constantly making its presence felt in many segments of pre-primary education.

The concept of our pre- school is based on a firm philosophy that “Every child is unique as an individual” and with patience, persistence and determination, we aim to bring about the best in each child.

Keeping this philosophy in mind, we try to create an environment in school that will challenge the most confident child and reassure a hesitant child who is hovering on the threshold of learning with freedom to make mistakes.

The pre - school curriculum focuses on learning through practical and project methods. This method invokes curiosity, develops interest, has an element of novelty and gives freedom to explore and experiment. It motivates the child to learn and thus in turn leads to attentiveness.

This method slowly develops in the child the process of logical thinking and applying knowledge.

We also supplement, activity based learning at various stages by audio-visual aids, field trips and lively demonstrations.

In accordance with what one of the great writer has said, “The difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary is that little extra” and that is what we are trying to do at the kindergarten school.

As school started establishing very well, we thought of doing something different. All along we nurtured a dream and set our hearts upon it, kindled with the fire of enthusiasm, we made every effort to make our dream come true and thus, GYANADEEP was born.

Gyanadeep is the Resource Centre which came into being in 1998. It helps to keep the lamp of knowledge burning as we firmly believe that ‘Knowledge is Power.

At the resource centre, the doors are open to a world of new experiences, opportunities and ideas. This is done through workshops, seminars and guidance programmes for parents, teachers and children.

At Gyanadeep, there is a well-knit team of experts in their specialized fields who act as Resource People.

One normally progresses from a nursery school to a primary school, and then to a secondary school. But we decided to go about it little differently.
In the year 2001, we graduated straight to a Teachers Training Institute from a kindergarten school. i.e. we started Sunderji's Teachers’ Training Institute.
Here we train young ladies through a one-year full-time course in pre-primary teachers education, at the end of which a certificate in Pre-Primary Training is given to them.
Through this course, we aim to develop dynamic, enterprising, creative and understanding teaching community in the field of education.

Well, it is aptly said, ‘Growth has no limit at the Sunderji’s; we keep revising our vision and pursue further goals.

In the year 2003 we establish another centre under our resource centre Gynandeep i.e. Enrichment Opportunity Centre For Children With Specific Learning Difficulties.

We have found that there are 15% of children in Pune with Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) and the number is constantly growing.
Through our constant meetings with counselors and educationists, we have realized that these children are a cause of concern for all of us.
We were individually and collectively perturbed at growing number of SLD children and are at the same time charged with an energetic desire to do something unique, novel and practical for these kids.

Through countless sessions of discussions and many months of thoughtful research, we felt a need to open a centre for children with Specific Learning Difficulties.

At this centre we have individualized educational programme (IEP), according to functional level of each child, which will help a child to overcome his weakness in a reading, writing, spelling, maths etc.

The entire learning environment is reorganized through multi-sensory approach, simple aids, flip charts, games etc.

The landmark of the year 2004 was the establishment of Image i.e. a Support Group for the parents of children with SLD, ADHD, autism and other behavioral problems. It was formally established under the wings of Sunderji's Enrichment Opportunity Centre for Specific Learning Difficulties. Image, which has been inaugurated on 23rd August 2004, which is an extension of Sunderji’s to provide information, support and technological tools to improve the lives of students with Specific Learning Difficulties.

The next logical step after the Enrichment Opportunity Centre was to create a centre, which would be an extension of the Remedial Centre, so in the year 2004 the NIOS centre was started i.e. National Institute Of Open School.

This centre has children who are school dropouts due to various learning problems. It is a regular school, which has 2 levels. A & B. Here the children will solve the curriculum through remedial techniques.

 As we enter 11th year one thought which crosses all our minds is that “Our work will be the signature which we will leave behind in this world.”
